A sacred testimony
to the power of grace

سحر  ·  Sehar — the pre-dawn hour

The Hour of Sehar traces Melinda Jackson's journey through childhood abuse and neglect, military sexual trauma, and spiritual transformation. With raw, unflinching honesty and lyrical precision, she explores the enduring impact of familial abandonment and systemic betrayal — including within the U.S. Army — while charting a hard-fought path toward healing, restoration, and grace.

"Brokenness is not the end, but the beginning of becoming."

Named after an Arabic word that refers to the pre-dawn hour — a still, liminal space regarded as a pause before new beginnings — this book reflects the spiritual truth that God often begins His deepest work in the dark.

"To the little girl I used to be —

I see you now. You were never too much. Never a problem to fix.
You belong. You are safe. You are seen.

And I understand you now."

Introduction

Echoes in My Name

My middle name, Seda, means Echo in Turkish; it was created from the first initials of the names of my mother and the man I believed was my father: Seval and David. For most of my life, that name felt like a symbol of who I was — an echo of other people's choices, secrets, and silences.

David raised me. He fought for me. He promised to love me as his own. And for a long time, I believed that promise meant something simple: that I belonged to him. That I came from him. That my story began with his name.

But truth, like an echo, has a way of finding its way back.

At twenty-five, I learned that my biological father was someone else — a man named Hardy. I spoke to him only twice. Both times, he denied me completely.

This memoir points toward a faith that is distinct from institutionalized Christianity — a truer reflection of the Jesus Way. It engages spiritual truth with honesty, courage, and moral clarity.
